Every device on KoboldTouch gets a single, transparent score out of 100. It is an editorial composite, not a marketing number, and never for sale.

Resolution (ppi), contrast, front-light evenness and colour accuracy where relevant.
02 Reading & writing feel
Page-turn speed, pen latency and friction, ghosting and refresh behaviour, drawn from owner and expert reports.
03 Features
Waterproofing, physical buttons, storage, audio, stylus support and note-taking tools.
04 Ecosystem & software
Store size, supported formats, library integration (Libby/OverDrive), sync and export options.
05 Recency
How current the hardware is: newer panels and chips score higher.
06 Value
Price against everything above. A great device at a fair price beats a slightly better one that costs double.
How we research and rank
Our verdicts come from documentary research rather than a lab we do not pretend to have. For every device we start from the manufacturer's official specifications, compare features side by side across the range and against rivals, and read widely across published owner and expert reviews to see which trade-offs actually bite. We verify current prices and availability by region, and we revise each entry when a device is refreshed or the market shifts. We never claim to have physically tested a unit we have not. Rankings are never sold, no commercial deal ever changes a verdict, and when we get something wrong we fix it.
